The Artistic Letters.........Exploring Ideas While Creating Stories

Title: Those Depressed Ones….Smile

Title: Different Point of View

(Left) Those Depressed Ones…Smile is the earliest memory I have working to express with color after studying about color theory and perspective. I was excited about what I can create around this time knowing each piece from that point on could be different or more complex. The Depressed Ones centered around a story, so this piece had a narrative that focused on the subject of “people”. Paintings around this time, which was around 2005, mostly lacked focus on structure and more on color so paintings were represented as more Abstract.

(Right) Different Point of View came later in time, around 2010, but at this time I was feeling more confident to try perspective within a tone and familiar patterns. Again centering most to a character with emphasis on the patterned design over color. This was one of many illustrations I was working on at this time that was part of the first draft to “The Artistic Letters”. In fact the original idea for the book was a book of strictly illustrations but changed my mind last minute to collect more work for the final presentation.

These two pieces shown above couldn’t be any different from each other but I started to focus on creating work that brought multiple layers together allowing each piece to have its own personality. This led to work as illustrations that constantly push a crazier thought forward and allowed wilder perspective.

I’m excited to push forward while trying to keep the creative themes interesting. These two shown above represent the subject of “dreams”. I often see the creative process as a interesting dream that hardly ever gets figured out but excites. I continue to dream but often enjoy the ideas (scenes) I have yet to work on.
